1500’s on records of Turners and Ilotts in the Broadwell district County of Oxford – see 1861

1761 William (son of William and Catherine) at Broadwell (research by PP) (there were other children 1749 Henry and 1752 Edmund born of the same parents at Broadwell)(Wm Lord of the Manor was born in 1761 and in 1851 census states born at Broadwell)

Mary Shortland born probably in Oxford - 1787 (future wife of Wm Lord of the Manor)

1776 (12/6) and 2/3/77 William Turner born to William Turner in Burford (this would have made our Wm Turner 41 at marriage so probably not the one we seek) He had a John and Frances (???Francis) as witnesses at his wedding.

1778 (26/7) Francis Turner born to William Turner in Burford

1782 (3/2) John Turner born to William Turner in Burford

1788 William Holland married Grace Brown at Stepney

1789 William Turner (artist Turner of Oxford) born at Black Bourton (12 November 1789; christened 28 December 1789) (Father Robert from Burford (died BB 5 September 1791), Mother Mary Cox from Black Bourton (born 6 January 1767), married Black Bourton, (2 other children Anne Cox 1791 and Margot 1792))

1804 William Turner bought the Manor House and the entire parish of Shipton-on-Cherwell (537 acres, price 10,000 pounds of which 9,900 was a mortgage from Duke of Marlborough)(he came from Burton (Dictionary of National Biography) (? on-Trent ? from Wiltshire) In the 1851 census he was listed as born in Broadwell in 1762 –

1804 William Turner (aged 14 or 15)(artist Turner of Oxford) moved to live with his uncle William in the Manor (source catalogue)

1805 (19/11) William Turner (widower aged 42) married Mary Shortland at St. Giles Church Oxford (OFHS entry)

1806 baptise Sept 28 Mary Turner daughter of William and Mary christened at Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell (The parish register does not accord him rank but certainly Wm (Lord of the Manor))

1808 baptise April 26 William Henry Turner son of William and Mary born October 20 at Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell (The parish register does not accord him rank but certainly Wm (Lord of the Manor))

1809 Nov 9 baptise Vincent John son of William and Mary (b Oct 22) (William Lord of Manor) at Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell

1809 December 4 John Weatherstone (batchelor) married Mary Turner (widow) at Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell (witness Benjamin Cutland (the transcriber had previously put Cutland for Cullen in the name of son of Wm – Wm Cullen Turner b 1817) (Perhaps Cullen was friend of Wm Lord of the Manor) Mary Turner is likely to be the mother of Turner of Oxford

1810 baptise Edgar son William and Mary (b Oct 6) (William Lord of Manor) at Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell

1812 April 22 baptise Frances daughter of William and Mary (b Feb 21) (William Lord of Manor) at Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell

1814 baptise Sept 20 Alfred son William and Mary (Farmer) born Feb 21 (William Lord of Manor) at Holy Cross, Shipton on Cherwell

1815 James (son of William Lord of the Manor) died 15 February (aged 1 year 8 months) (tablet in Church)

1824 William Turner (artist Turner of Oxford)artist of St Clements, Oxford (21 a.u.) married Elizabeth Ilott (21 a.u.) at Shipton on Cherwell July 3 with William and Mary Turner and Mary Ilott as witnesses (almost certainly Uncle and Aunt). Mary Ilott aged 66 years was recorded at the Manor 1851 census as Annuitant. (JT thinks that the gravestone of Elizabeth Turner (Ilott) at Shipton on Cherwell Holy Cross Church records her as coming from Broadwell)
